Born in Holguín, Cuba, William Osorio migrated to the United States in pursuit of creative and intellectual freedom, ultimately establishing himself as a self-taught artist. His large-scale paintings are characterized by vivid color compositions that echo the classical tradition of painting while integrating elements from abstract movements. Through experimentation with textiles and unconventional materials, Osorio adopts an intuitive, gestural approach to the canvas, emphasizing the successive layering of oil paint to achieve a deeply textured surface.

Osorio’s practice engages in a meditation on art history, literature, and the interplay between power and knowledge, alongside a reinterpretation of myths. His work critically addresses themes of migration and identity, while also exploring the communicative channels between art history imagery and the urgent issues of contemporary society.
